CAROUSEL
In a roundabout way...
Today was a day of changeable weather. Sunny for a while and the clouds came along and spoiled things for the Holidaymakers of Brighton. The wind blew cold and strong…the sea was rough and furious. The businesses along the seafront were open and doing their best to earn a living in this barometric anarchy blowing in from the English Channel.
I stood for a while beside the Carousel which was not turning. Nobody was interested in a ride on a cold, wooden horse and fewer yet wanted to ‘fly’ in the funny little aeroplanes. The music blared, the tickets were on sale but there were no takers. No thrill seekers. No money was made.
The Summer seems to be a few weeks away yet but the businesses remain hopeful and open. After all, chips are never out of season.
Here are the sounds that I heard as the thin veneer of traditional fun gave way to a busy main road.
(Headphones on, please.)
